Some ideas come at night (or in private places). Others are slowly shaped over the years, constantly refined, till they get to the point where everything is working.

This idea came at noon, right before lunch-break. Well, to be honest we’ve been thinking ’bout all this for a couple of years but we always missed one gear to make it work. Everything was good, perfect for everybody. Except for us, and our wallet But all of a sudden we got the missing piece.

And youpeople was born.

A new mobile community, was it needed? Well, we think it was! For a starters, youPeople is giving its users free SMS messages directly from the mobile handset in exchange for advertisement. And this is just the beginning!

By now it is limited to some selected venues in our city, but we hope it grows quickly!

We’ve been working for a while re-engineering our WLP40 unit in a self contained new package. You can see the result below. We’re proud to say that – despite strict space requirements – we’ve been able to keep optimal performances thanks to a good internal design. And of course it is 100% compatible with Mobitouch 2.0 management system. We expect the new unit to be available in a couple of weeks for purchasing.

I’ve been writing introductions to my company quite a few times in the last two years.

I’ve done it for business plans, conferences and other events but of course this is the first time I am doing it for the new official blog of Waymedia. And since in our plans these pages should give us the opportunity of communicating our news to the outside world in an informal way, this time the job is going to be a bit different.

So what do we do basically? We develop a complete hardware & software platform for deploying Digital Proximity Marketing services. Digital Proximity Marketing is a relatively new concept; there’s a good definition given by wikipedia so I think it would be no point repeating it here. In general we like to think that our systems should be capable of delivering relevant information to users (where relevant is characterized by variables such as User Profile, Time, Location, etc…) and we’ve chosen to use the Bluetooth protocol to provide such services.

Why Bluetooth? There are many reasons for this choice. First, Bluetooth is now a very widespread technology. It’s adoption has been driven by handsfree kits (first mono, then hiFi) and now it’s found in a growing number of tech toys. Then it’s free, and this is a very important point for people that usually pay the bill for everything. And third it’s an easy to use technology (just switch it on and you’ll be in touch with the system) but very, very reliable.

So roughly a couple of years ago we were in business. We started developing our product, Mobitouch, for which we choose an industrial-grade embedded board (we needed a product capable of standing very low and high temperatures, typical when you make outdoor installations) and developing firmware for it and at the same time a software on the PC side for configuring it.

And here we are. Lots of things happened, some good (well, mostly) some others not so good… but this is a long story and this is becoming quite a long post. From now on we would like to share our path with you, our ideas, our plans. We think of this blog as a cooperative tool also, in which we can get new Ideas and outline new services that – hopefully – will be mainstream tomorrow.

So, back to work. And we’ll keep you updated.
